Advise needed

As you are aware i am new to this koi keeping,my pond has been up and running since oct 04,approx 3500 gals with 4 small koi in it" see pics on my first pond thread"
There is a bottom drain and a skimmer.

I have some concerns and hope that the experts here can help me.

1. I have noticed some green algae build up on the pond walls and the water is not as clear as it was,do i need to put some chemicals in the pond or filter system to rectify this ?.
I have not put any in as yet

2. This worries me more..

I have noticed that the skimmer filter sucks in air every few days,i rectify this by adjusting the water flow and have turned off the waterfall just in case i was losing water from this area.
I have not noticed any Significant water drop in the pond but the problem keeps occuring ??

Any advise would be accepted

1) No it's just your pond maturing, give it time.

2) I'd guess that your skimmer is pretty much at its minimum operating height and a slight drop is causing the pump to be slightly starved of water. Be aware if you are closing a valve to throttle back the pump as you will be putting excess back pressure on the pump.

I can't possibly say whether you should change the filter chamber.

Just be patient with the pond water. It's like fine wine, it gets better with time. The fish you have in there now should boost the bio...

Till the temps get up there again and your koi begin feeding your filter, you might want to think of installing an overflow to your pond and starting a trickle in. That will insure your water clarity and provide a constant insurance that the water level is retained for maximum operation.

Bedskoi - As others have stated your pond is maturing. Not sure from your post, but are you thinking that the green algae is causing your water to not be clear? Actually you Want this algae on the sides of the pond. Do not clean this off - it is part of the mature pond.
