This 18" koi is as close as I have to something like that (hide your eyes). It use to be a very nice doisu ogon. I started feeding a new 44% feed that I got from Kloubec's last year and several of my fish started getting hi where there had never been any. This koi also has some sumi in the back that looks like it may come up also. I guess it had Sanke in the woodpile as they say. Im letting this koi go for the measly price of $10. Take it away, my eyes, my eyes....

The second photo that Arthur was kind enough to post of morris's kosui doesn't begin to show the presence that koi demands in person. Everyone raved about it at the show. As in most newer varieties it will be interesting to see how it ages

Greg: That should be in the Koi That Fail thread!

Actually, I think it is an interesting fish in several respects. First, the lateral patterning showing up talks about doitsu heritage and some links to Shusui. Second, it is not uncommon for metallics to become duller as they age, but I do not recall so complete a loss of shine on an Ogon that size ever. I would not have thought it would happen. You have a truly unique mutt of a carp. If you find no buyer at that price, find someone who will take it for free to preserve it as a rare example ... of whatever. But, do it quickly. It is urgent you get it a new home. Koi like that have a way of becoming very friendly. Then sentimentality takes hold. One day you find that you are spending your weekends caring for crapped-out fish, postponing home improvements to add filtration because they've grown larger, and contemplating the expense of a new pond so you have room for a few decent koi. You can save yourself now. In another month, you may be in too deep to escape.

Kosui

Dick,

You're right the picture does not do the koi justice. BTW it is now 6 years old.

I see more and more of them in Japan (not that common though). You can find them especially at the nogosai show in Ojiya. I remember seeing a Ginrin Kosui there in 2003. The scales along the dorsal with were so shiny, the white so snow white, and deep beni (I did not dare ask for price). I know I have a photo of it somewhere but cannot find it :-(

I think the Kosui is a cross of Shusui x Kohaku. JR, am I right?

I am a Gosanke type (and Asagi, Dick :-), but would certainly not mind a good quality Kosui in my pond.

Oh! And Tony, my partner, tells everybody who asks what a Kosui is: "Kosui is Shusui without the Blu-ee."

Yeah, it would be my luck to sell that one, and then see it years later have more Hi come up and look AWSOME.

I sold a black fingerling koi to a customer, and saw it a year later and its now a magnificant looking Kumonryu.

Ok, I will post another dissapointing Bekko on the koi that fail thread....
