The UofG folks are likely familiar with induced spawning and you do need a vet to get the hormones, I think.

However, I'm pretty sure you should just let nature take it's course -- in a controlled setting. The DVD with Koi-Bito #6 showed some of how the folks at Momotaro do this.

I am sure I can find a vet to get the injection from or let him do the injection of hormones I just need to know the process of the artifical spawn. I am sure their is people out their that have done this and can help me I just have to find the one that can do it. Have been searching for quit some time and thinking if I can not find someone to help with this I will take my koi to a vet and have it done and see if I can watch the process.

Koifishgirl, I'm not sure why you need to be artificially? I’d have a go at natural spawning if I were you.

Given good conditioning I have rarely had to think about induced. Through if you look on my web site I have carried this out with no problems, currently I would only carry this out now if I were to want to spawn with two males, but not mix the fry.

Over the weekend, if you would like to know more about artificial spawning, I will be able to put more time in and explain a little.

Maurice.

Keokoi, I ain't in it for the koi I am in it for the women... As for TopDawg, I have to say it is Brian Sousa aka "Kaiser Sousa" (movie The Ususal Suspects). Brian is a cool cat, pretty humble.....much love for you!!!

Akai-son is right, we all bring different experiences to the table and that's what makes to hobby cool...We can all relate...plus we are all still learning this hobby we call "Nishikigoi".

A wiseman (Koibito Forum) once told me from the beginning, this hobby requires time to develop oneself. Time to experience, time to learn, time to listen, and time to experiment...it is a long, long, long journey to reach the promise land...and even if one finds it, he will come to understand that it is still just the beginning.

Hows that guyz? Am I in the ballpark this time?

Have to tell this story.... A certain un named breeder in the states decided he would breed a GR chagoi and began giving it hormone shots. Each time he checked ,the eggs would not dispense, so he would shoot her again. Well to hasten a long story after 3 shots the koi turned out to be a male. ( It did look female, I must confess ) It just strikes me as a funny situation that could happen again for a first time spawner.

I was thinking what maurice said. Give the boy and girl a private room, a few unbraided nylon ropes and you'll have enough babies to keep you busy no matter how bad you screw it up.
The best thing you can do is make the breeding pen as large as you possibly can and rear the fry in it.

Smile

Wow I think I came to the right forum. So many people with the experience, I quess I could not ask for better advice. Will be getting in touch with you guys this weekend. Thanks again as my boyfriend has a catfish pond and this just might work out where we do not have to buy anymore fingerlins. Reason I want to learn is because I want to control my spawn because of time.
