Yep, I'm with you Mike! For me a Showa is so much about balance and overall impression. The old saying "If you take away the black you should have a nice Kohaku pattern" does not, or should not apply to Showa,... because the sumi provides so much of the balance with Showa (on a finished Koi).
Hi Bunyip, I think it would be very hard to top the Dainichi/Kato Inazuma Showa as the most perfect Showa ever produced,... and yet if we break that fish down into the quality of the elements it is not so strong - it's not a large fish, the red alone is not incredible, the sumi alone is not incredible,... BUT as a complete package the Koi is incredible!
