Hi Ray,

There was indeed an outbreak at a Tokyo "dealer" at the end of November. Don't believe that anyone outside of Japan would know him as he has concerete magoi fishing ponds, and sells extremely low quality koi. This is the only outbreak that I'm aware of.

rgds,

How sad. Not a "real dealer", but it keeps inching closer to the source of koi.

All I know is that if there is something like that people should spread the news..If spread and control are the issues, then hobbyist should say something to prevent..

Hi Brian,
Thank you for that update. Hopefully, concerns about the necessary Niigata emergency koi rescues that mixed som many different koi n different ponds this fall will be unwarranted. I am buying several koi from Niigata in a effort to help the breeders of that hard hit area. However, they will be placed in my Quarantine tank for at least three weeks at 72F along with a couple of my own "canary" koi to insure they are healthy before they are moved to the big pond with the rest of my collection.

Now that the word is out in the open, you can see why i talked earlier about
chicken little verses the ostridge theory.

I hope our readers will understand that an industry in the niigata area is under duress. It doesn't need the chicken little's of the world to create more economic hardship over and above what the earthquake accomplished. The other side is that each needs to know what to do and how to operate a q-tank.

Thank you ray for explaining what's happening in the USA to be proactive. Our club voted today under a proposal i put on the floor to donate to the fund!

Hi Dick,

First, Thank your club for me for being proactive. You are of course correct. Pretending that KHV is not a real threat or overreacting and thinking KHV is the end of the koi world are neither helpful or realistic.

We can and should take immediate steps to protect our personal collections. In additional we need to be proactive and make an effort to develop some new technoligies to protect the entire hobby. IMHO to do less is shameful.
