thanks Mike, Dick.
indeed the koi is a male, though how Dick was was able to ascertain it from that one picture i have no idea, but it's certainly an impressive trick! was it the shade of the hi?

here is another pic, which i apologize for the lack of clarity, of the shusui and one of its siblings. both bred by sakai (hiroshima) and sold in pairs during their auction. now having discovered that the one i chose - and still decided to keep - is male, i am thinking of buying the sibling as well. may i have comments on this one? i know the pic is not the best, but let me know what you can tell from it.
i believe both are hana shusuis.

my water is quite soft so it's good to hear that that bears well for shusui, cause i'm having a tough time developing shiros.

Dick, any truth to what some people seem to say, that shusuis have a crazy character? are they the antithesis of the friendly chagoi?

Soelistyo,

Your right they would be hana's. I think you would learn something to have both to compare against. You'll see differences even among siblings that will help you understand how things turn out.

Because shusui are the earliest douitsu made from the first color variety, they tend to have a mind of their own (like a siamese cat) I have seen them gentle and friendly one moment then off and racing the next.

If you get them both please try and keep a photo record as they grow.

I'm hopeful Arthur who posts here will find me a nice shusui when he brings in his tosai the end of next month. My big asagi Kimiko that used to be so wild when i got her is getting more friendly. But if she spies something she doesn't feel is right she dives away leaving a big wash buck swirl and sends my heart racing.

I don't know why I love those blue koi but i just do!

Hi All,

Must agree with Mike T if its got red then chuck it, mine started life with Hi on the pecks, above lateral line and gills plates, having been in a temporary vat whilst pond was under construction the Hi recedded do you think this will return Dick, suppose my Asagi falls into the A category??, I like C & B also but preffer the darker blue and good reticulation.

Comment please be gentle.

Thumbs up Billy, you'be got the beginnings of a winner

Billy:

Wow! If the Asagi drops the hi on the pec, you've got a winner, not that you don't already have one... What a beauty....

Do you know the breeder?

Aloha! Mike

I'm glad your posting here too! and thanks for putting you koi's picture up so others could see and appreciate it.

for many who only know the typical show asagi, your koi wouldn't fit the bill.

But as the last KB magazine featuring Asagi explains there is value
there!

Mike from Hawaii feels much like I do about the red. Less is more!

Your koi has a very nice body. So often they are so slender. Your looks like any gosanke.

love having another asagi lover on board!

Hi Mike ,

Your comments are very gratifying, restores my faith in my koi selection. The koi was purchased 3yrs ago as Tosai, has now reached 50cm and came from Ogata, as to the exact breeders name I will chase this one up from were it was purchased. Price paid for was £90 a bargin or what.
