Help for Beginners

Tamus, I live in Denton and come to Ardmore about twice a month to visit an elderly friend at Elmwood. If you are willing to post your e-mail address I will correspond with you about suggestions. Or if you come to Denton from time to time you are welcome to visit my pond.

I belong to a water garden club and a koi kichi club. Both are quite different in purpose. As a total beginner you might want to start with a water garden club first.

Anne,
Sorry to hear you lost your ake mae. She reminds me alot of my wagoi.
I hope you'll find another. When I found mine it was a two year journey and had to wait for a japanese hobbyists to get tired of her before I could get her away and across the pond. Mine has been with me over 20 years and she is very special to me. I share your pain!

I would think he's quite knowledgeable on theory and he's gotten most if not all his information from this board... Someday he may even build a pond, and buy a fish or two... When he does, he'll do it right, because of what he's learned here...
Hey...I thought my ears were getting a little itchy...

Tamus,

MikeT is absolutely right...after reading almost everything under the sun on koi, I literally ran out of resources. In fact, after joining this board, I found out first hand that a majority of what I had been reading was very much OUTDATED. It was still great to read, because I got to go through the process of weeding through the old concepts and theories and THANKS TO THIS FORUM, I learned how to apply more modern concepts and developments of the hobby and mesh them into my own theories and processes...Never stop learning, never stop trying.

Like MikeT said, One of these days I'll be ready to build my tricked-out once a week maintenance pond(s)...And thanks to this forum...I will do it right! Big MAHALO for that one.

More importantly, the expertise on this board, IMHO far exceeds any other board that I have been on...(Yes guys...I do go to other boards) With all this first hand advice and at least 500 years experience(all put together) How could you possibly go wrong.

Hey guys...my apps are in...just waiting for a thumbs up or thumbs down. In any case, its a win-win situation.....I either go to live in Japan for five years or I get to build my first kick-@$$ koi pond.

Tamus,

Just of word of warning. When I first got into the learning of things...especially from this board...I obsessed on wanting to know more and more and more....MikeT was also correct in my relentless questioning. Once I got a taste, I needed more...I even had dreams about how I would build my ponds, waking up in the middle of night with some kind of revelation on pond filtration.... ...believe me, I was sick!

But now I'm good...I'm at a point now where I just have to do.... It has been a most excellent learning experience thus far and I still feel like I'm in in pre-school. Don't worry, take your time, we got a lifetime to learning ahead...Good Luck.

Yeah I think I am starting to know what you are talking about. Last night I was out playing with my water garden till it got dark then I was in here going through passed archives till my kids nagged me enough about wanting some dinner that it was interrupting me (As if its maditory to eat or something) then right back to it untill after I should have already been in bed. It is moderately frustrating because if you search for "Depth" it gives you every thread that ever had a post with the word depth in it so its almost easier to just go back 15 pages or so and find a topic that looks like it has something I need to know about.

Thanks again for all your help and patience everyone.
