Tofu good for shiro??

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anybody else gives tofu to their koi beside the regular food.
I give tofu to my koi because it have very high calcium content. Up to 89% per 100mg.
I also notice that the shiro on my koi improve when I feed them tofu. It could be just my imagination so I would like to find out from fellow hobbyists who also give tofu to their koi. Notice anything?

I wouldn't see why not, at Momotaro they feed the koi in the 1500ton pond tofu. Well the raw uncooked type. Daisuke Maeda said it helps with digestion and watching the koi eat it they love it. So, if Momotaro feeds All-Japan Class Gosanke with it I dont see why you cant.

Me personally I add a powdered milk high in vitamin A&D to my paste so no need to feed tofu.

Can you tell us how you make your paste? Does it roll into balls? How do you feed it??

what a coincidence that this thread came up just as our marketer purchased tofu ... so i cut some into 3/4 x 3/4 x 3/4 slices and fed them to the kois ...

the small ones waited for the big ones to mince it into smaller pieces ...

i sure hope this does some good!

Hello Singapore Sword fish,
Do you refer tofu koi food as in soft tubing version or hard curded blocks vacuumed packs?
I am concerned of high preservative level used.
I worry of yellow food colouring inside with flavouring.
We seldom see much soya related products at our end.
Understand beancurd has high calcium content.
Wonder if cooked soya beans work just well?
Good news that the shiro improves when fed tofu.
Would it not be better if you launch a before-after photo?
Shiro Utsuri lovers are keen on this trick.
How about the output after tofu input?
Any better for water condition?
Since tofu is sort of organic product, is Shiro slim?

I make the paste food with sweet potato as the base then add refresh, one egg, powered milk, honey, chitinal, super c, propolis, pako breadcrumbs. I then roll then into balls for the fish and drop them into the pond so the fish can fight over them.

Sorry for the late reply.
I don't own any Shiro utsuri cos have to completely shade my pond and install chillers if I intent to keep any good one. Too heavy on electric bill.
1) Soft tubing type.
2) Ours contain no preservative which is why the expiry date is only about 2 weeks. Once open last only 3 days at the most.
3) The tofu I use are white with no flavouring.
4) IMHO it is not advisable to give soya bean itself for not easily digestible. Tofu are easily digested as it is the extract of the beans. Can feed direct from the packet as it is already cooked during the production process.
5) I'm just speculating that tofu improve the shiroji of my koi. No hard evidents that's why I'm asking members of the board do they have similiar experiences.
6) After 3-5 hrs back wash your filter systems. You'll see lots of tiny tofu 'snow flakes'.
7) Doesn't affect my water parameter. Before & after my TDS still stand at 120-125ppm.

Tofu or Soya Beancurd is high on protein and a good source of calcium.
How does this plentiful supply of calcium, phosphorous and iron benefit your koi?
You mentioned, no Shiro Utsurimono in your pond.
Seem to me that warmer countries shy away from Shiro Utsuris.
What tofu does to your other koi?
Does tofu promote a better health and better growth for your koi?
Have you got any before-after pictures to show clear shiroji improvement?
You washed off tofu remains, so water parameter is in control, no worry on that.
Was it instant acceptance on this diet by your koi?
I hate it when koi do a taste trial and spit out mashed up portions of food.
Swordfish, I will have more advise from you before I go organic with my koi.
Our end, we use alfafa. Very thin strains of greenish 'bean-spourts'.
Alfafa are commonly used in salads. Very organic, very nutritious.
I have tried only as a supplement to normal koi feed.

i used to feed my kois tofu as well, the only issu i have with tofu is after eating, there's plenty of feces compared to normal pellet. After a while, i stopped feeding regularly.



i still feed them once in a while, after all, only 70 cents from NTUC...

What causes the extra feaces deposits from your koi?
Swordfish claims an improvement to white areas, chewed, your take?
What gave you an idea to add tofu as koi feed?
Are the extre elements in tofu an extre punch?
Feaces too excessive is undesirable, but the quality derived outweighs!
With more friends taking on cheap prized tofu, we will have a better enlightenment.
Can either of you, Swordfish or Chewed, share pictures of that extra benefit as seen on your koi.
