Spring tosai for learning

Every spring I pick up 2-6 tosai to grow for the year. I do this for my own learning. I try to pick up tosai from different breeders to see how their fish develop in my pond. I thought I'd share two I just got and I'm quite excited about. They're approx 20cm.

I think the shiro utsuri is nice! very nice shiro and good body.

The showa however is hard to judge at this point.

Just my opinion.

Both fish have nice body...pattern on both fish is still undefined but their is some room for improvement...Be it what they are and they are tosai they only have room to improve...But I really like the Showa more than the Shiro.

I am also more partial to the showa than the Shiro. It helps to have the Kuchibeni, but the overall balance is better for me. Shiro a much earlier show fish than the Showa. I would have done the same thing as you, ie taken a chance on them.

thanks Bob, again my main objective is to learn from them. as much info is out there regarding how individual breeders koi develop, there is that one major factor which influences their development and that's the hobbyist pond and everyone's individual 'style' of caring for koi.

ps: both tosai have shown increase in sumi... and it's only been 2 days !!!

Exclamation Spring Tosai

Erwinsan,
Are these the new tosai for my new pond? I'm also partial to the Showa, but the Shiro is very nice.
