My pick of all is A because of the body shape. she has a good thick body down the length of this koi also the shiro from what I can see in the pic is good and the hi is not messy, it is still a young koi and needs time to finish, the pattern on this koi catches your eyes and the yellowing in the head should improve as the koi ages, The tail tube on this koi is very thick with a good clean break before tail fin. I think in time this koi will be your best koi of the koi in the pics. You can see the specks in the hi indicating the koi is still young and growing. got a great body on that koi.

C,B,A

white is so incredibly important to kohaku. C, looks like it has some more growing
to do and a pattern big enought to stick with it. B is a pretty koi but to me the pattern is becoming underwhelming with the growth of the body. A's face is much too discolored to be ranked very high by me.

Well for now or for the future........

for the future
A...once its head turns white. While the pattern is all over the place; Does anyone else see the Rubenesque nude walking. I saw a koi in a 2 year old ZNA Mag that had that exact same lady.
C...looks more typical and the colors are good
B...the colors are good but not enough hi.

they all have good bodies

Dick,

You seem to have the same problem I have: liking the classical style of old. On the other hand I am starting to take a liking to some more flowery Kohaku of late production.

Have you taken any account of the winning Kohaku in Japan over the last two year: very flowery patterns.

I think that going forward there will be room for both, the majestic beauty of a classic pattern, and the striking impression of the newer flowery patterns. I still think that the classic patterns live longer in th eye though.

What do you think?

i don't see a sure winner among the 3, but the first one i'd write off is koi B. i presume these koi aren't very big/old yet (max nisai/sansai of 50-60cm?), the body is poor for a fish of that size.

that leaves me with A and C. pattern wise both are fine, though A's is more interesting. the hi on A looks a bit hard, i prefer C's skin and colors. A also seems to have a shortish head (is it a Momotaro?). But to pick based on this pic, i'd go with A cause C's head/gills seem to portrude from the rest of the body, this disturbs me. hope it's just a photo effect.

so A followed by C, and i wouldn't even touch B.
