Need more Ideas...
Joe, you know damn well what will get the ringers out of the ponds and that is I hate to say it cash prizes!!! If the KOI AMERICA SHOW had money prizes I think you would have every Tom, Dick and Hank bringing their fish out....

I thought that was the point of competition...to reward the best, give people the chance to show and see quality koi and discuss them, and to share knowledge to push the hobby forward. Jealousy as a detractor or as a motivator? I am confused.

That would be a motivator for some folks for sure, especially since it would be guilt-free money to spend on more koi stuff! Some people maybe show for money, some for recognition, some for validation, some to show off, some to bring nice fish to public eye, some for fun. Have to find ways to appeal to all of them some how......

I don't know if cash prizes would do it. Almost all ringers are big, high quality Japanese gosanke and those fish are big dollars. Anyone who can afford a ringer is already pretty wealthy. They wouldn't necessarily be motivated by a small cash prize. I could be wrong, but I'm assuming any cash prize would be small. My impression is that koi organizations that organize and sponsor these shows don't have much money. I think cash prizes would bring out more people but they would tend to be in the smaller size categories.

I better show it quick before it starts looking like my Shiro! The shame, the shame. I think I'll go rescue my showa from quarantine this weekend and bring baby champ home to mama.

You gotta bring that baby home! Hey Jen, I really like the pics of your pond and Koi. I think an Honorary Membership for Koi-Unit--Kentucky Chapter might be in order. What do you think Guys?
