I have seen the harvests start in early october and seen them run as long as mid november.
there is a pecking order of what comes in first. usually the tosai come first followed by the 2 year old and then the older koi.
i'd say if you planned to be there the third week of october that would be a good compromise. tosai should be in and some nisai as well. plus the weather is really nice. The longer i went each year, the later I went. Sometimes most of the 'touristos" were gone and the better 3 year olds and up were available and the demand (price) was better in line if you get my drift. by first of november you could find snow or some real deals. Alot of focus is on the one and two year olds and they sell out fast. keep in mind that you can miss a harvested pond by a day so if you love a certain breeder don't be shy about stopping by sveral times over a 4-5 day period. |
