Porous Media ...two topics in one...

Remember NO BM BS'ers on my threads.
First I had not heard that the New and improved Bakki Media would have a hole in it. That is interesting because Krupka's company Ecological Laboratories (Microbe lift) is just starting to make a Porous rock Media and it has a hole in the midlle of it.
Krupka was either smooth, or lived in the lab because he wasn't letting on that he ever heard of BM. Which is believable from the stand point that he works with cleaning river systems more than Koi Ponds.
I got him to walk over to a BMS that was set up to see what he thought and he agreed the aeration would help. he wondered about the porousity of BM so I smapped a chunk open for him and he compared the wet to the dry media to note the amount of water that the BM could hold.
Anyways, we'll see. Of course Krupka's media is impregnated with what they have figured to be the better organisms for converting the nitrites. But the media's shape and porousity looked good on its own. And I am not a proponent of the "bugs in a bottle" ideology.

And the hole in the middle of the new BM fits in with what Krupka was telling me.....
you see Krupka told me that the Anoxic layer is not the anaerobic layer. The anaerobic layer is beneath the anoxic layer and is an undesired layer....producing hydrogen sulfide I think?
So having a hole in the middle is SMART ..IF the BM is so thick that the middle become anaerobic over time, yet if they put a hole in the middle the hole creates more surface area with a good depth inwhich the anoxic level will occur yet the anaerobic level cannot....just thinking

Now on to making my own.....that is a way cool Idea...I can get porcelain for less than a buck a pound...but the coffee grounds?...I wonder how they entrained veins of air into their media...Anyone know?
if I entrained it with air I could double the size...so i could make 2cuft for about 30 bucks

They use a special powder, and probably a dielectric powder as well. The flexible foams also have piezoelectric possibilities. Either of those can drastically impact the bio world.

Alot of pressure sensors used in security are just that type of ceramic.

Ceramic sensors in guided missiles also use that type of concept working together with FIR to produce heat seeking missiles.

The rice idea came from a psuedo scientist, on the Momo site it talks about the special powder but not in detail, as I am sure they do not want the world going out and copying them with a hobby kiln...

I would like the moderators to note this post by valarc too, I consider this to be personal harrassment, and I would like him gone. He had me and tewa banned from koiphen with his manipulations, he can go back there and post all he wants. His personal rancor towards me needs to stop.

You attacked me on tewa's thread on this forum first, you were just more subtle about hiding it. I did nothing to have you banned - I didn't request it. I told you to seek professional help when you made the statement "watch it before you get hurt", threatening me. Tewa was locked for ignoring what the ops told him to do. I didn't ask them to do so in either case.

Thanks for verifying once and for all what a dishonest shady character you are, so people now have TWO reasons to disregard anything you say... one being that it's stupid, and two being that you're a liar.

Edit: a request to the mods: if you're going to ban someone, ban both of us. I'll be disappointed that I won't be able to participate in the great discussions ya'll have here, but I'd rather sit it out than have george constantly poison any thread about BHM with his outrageous nonsense ramblings.

I disagree with tewa. I dislike tewa. Quite a lot. However, at least tewa is sometimes capable of being a reasonable person. I have yet to see george demonstrate any redeeming qualities whatsoever. Lock us both and keep his crap out of your forums, and let your many intelligent members dispute the FIR nonsense with tewa.

Are we in grade school? Come on guys, niether one of you have gotten anywhere in the past, except that you are making yourselves out to look like your fighting on the play ground.

This is a nice calm board, and you two are taking your problems from Koiphen, and bringing them here. Not good!

We are all adults here and should carry ourselves as such.

Woody, believe me, I had no intention of fighting with him. He provokes this every time I post on any board. He is trying to intimidate me from posting on any boards, and make others think ill of me.

I am sorry this upsets the board, but my original post here was not reason for anyone to be upset, the disrupting factors came from val as they have in every board I have posted on since he has been in koi chat forums.

He has a personal hatred and desire to harm me reputationally, and create trouble for me. I appeal to the board moderators because I have no alternative. I did not say anything agressive towards him in here before he started on me. I want to continue to post on here and enjoy the forum, and for him to either stop personally insulting me or be gone.

As for my comment to tewa it had nothing to with you personally. It is actually a reference to some research I did on NSF projects, not you personally.

Play innocent all you want, I thought you said you weren't going to talk to me again unless it was in a court of law. You tried to get in a cheap jab at me and got caught in it. The board has already told tewa en masse that they don't want to discuss FIR. Your discussions are even more esoteric than the FIR nonsense... I was merely pointing out the fact that the ability to have rational discussions about porous media was going to be gone, because you will continue filling the thread with your random garbage about killer ceramics in the white house heating vents. Cry to the mods all you want like a little baby... I HOPE they lock both of us so people can be spared a hundred pages of your idiocy like we had to endure on other forums.

Chris, I agree with you. both sides need to agree they disagree
and abandon anything that can be viewed as hostile or chaotic
for those who choose to participate on this board.

i don't believe we need to ban people from this board, and i don't believe
we need to limit information because one side is commercial and another is
hobbyists. We do however need to be repectful of each other's opinions.
People who post here are bright and can see thru vailed and half truths. I think we need to give all of us some credit. And both sides of an issue is always valuable.

I would like to propose a moritorium in which this subject is allowed to cool.

Guys ( and gals) let's allow things to cool off a bit, allow for some more studies to get to a stage where more info can be input. and above all let's treat others with the respect we ourselves deserve. Let me thank you in advance for understanding and complying. I appreciate each and everyone who posts on or relies on this board for information. I wouldn't want to eliminate anyone's input. Keep it passionate not personal! thanks again!
