Do they bite?

How come you need a filter?

I won't need a bottom drain...........

Why is it so deep?

Will they sting you like a catfish?

They ship fish?

What's that red and white on called?

If I bought this small one will it grow like that one over that is $10K?

Why are they so big?

Why are they so expensive?

This is what I say to those who want to buy:
"I can only tell you the good and bad about this koi and in the end you have the final say"
"If you don't buy it, it wont hurt my feelings"
"You first got to set your expectations low"
Last but not least:
"The pattern alone"

How much did they cost? I always shake my head and tell non-koi folks they are "even worse than saltwater fish......like $75!" They are always $75, no more, no less. Just enough to let them know they aren't cheap, but not enough for them to feel justified to ask us for loans.

Can I feed them? Yes

Do you eat them? No

"Do you guys ever think about having kids?" Gotta love that loaded question!

Then there is my least favorite comment: "I liked it better when you had those big goldfish that were all one color with the long tails. They were prettier."

Appropriate response: "Go home."

I hear most questions around cost because they've heard about how expensive they are.

My favorite comment at the shows from non koi people goes something like this
" Oh, look Mildred.....Giant goldfish! "

or next favorite question..." Can you eat em?" to which I routinely reply, yes and i use a few branches broken off my bonsai and steam them together....the secret sauce is made of malacite green, a lovely cancer causing carcinogen!

I always pronounce the secret sauce with a japanese accent, it goes like this

male-a-kite-toe, Green noe. (gotta love -it )

"How much do they weigh?"
"So, the bigger ones are the older ones right?"
"I know someone that bought one for something like $500!!!"
