Where to start...hhhmmm...Well first of who is the breeder? Funny thing about this question is if you know the breeder you can gennerally know what direction the Sumi is goin to go....The beni looks good but very heavy, for my taste Sanke should be elegant....Shiroji to Beni should be 50/50 ratio and sumi should come up to accent the 2 or balance it out. Whatelse...the quality of the sumi is very good, lacquer black and blocky...Could be Jimbei...The funny thing about Jimbei Sanke is that they are probably the smallest of the Sanke Bloodline, meaning they don't get very big...but until I get a firm breeder on this I can comment anymore....

Sumi on the head, Hi over the eyes, very flowery kohaku pattern, sumi front end heavy but more to come, thin tail, long thin nose, possibly some unstable hi, female. Never going to be a show winner but would look very nice in any pond, I'd buy it if the price was right.

One point to make first is to Daz, a couple of times you have referred to patterns as flowery. In both cases, neither are flowery, a flowery pattern is a pattern which contains for a wish for better wording a 'dotted' pattern containing many small areas of beni. This and the showa you referred to a while back is nowhere near flowery.

No offence, just a pointer.

Now to my feelings.

Most of the sumi is on the beni, but a small amount is located on the shiroji and looks of excellent quality.

The koi is showing good signs of being very well balanced when all the sumi comes up, there is well placed sumi towards the rear of the koi which could ‘make’ this koi in time.
One of the main problems with sanke is tail heavy sumi and not enough at the front end, this koi is showing a nice balance.

There are several points of the beni pattern which look a little weak and a better photo is needed to work-out if this could be a problem.

The beni runs into the tail a little too much, but I’d live with it.

The pattern is interesting and is of a modern style. As the koi gets larger, the koi will look wonderful.

I’d like to see it a 90cm plus.

Maurice.

yeah the ends look a little off, but everything inbetween looks very good...I wouldn't be put off by the hi in the tail that might lessen with age, BUT IF THAT HEAD IS AS POINTED AS THE PIC SHOWS I'D PASS....it could just be the koi making a face at the camera....ask for another pic at the same angle

Hi Maurice

I think the term ‘flowery’ is very subjective. What one person considers flowery the next person may consider to not be flowery at all. Compared to my ideals though I personally consider that pattern to be flowery.

It's also a very relative description in that compared to say fish 1 below the pattern is not flowery at all but compared to fish 2 it certainly is flowery.

I have to concede defeat though and say that in the grand scheme of things, this fish probably doesn't deserve the tag 'flowery'.
