Green Water & Showing Koi

Alot of the folks on this board are getting ready for upcoming shows. I have heard that keeping your water green for a few weeks prior to showing will help to improve the luster and colors on your koi... Along with water changes and changes in diet. Do any of you do these things prior to showing? I will tell you what we have tried and continue to do, as this thread progesses.

Haven't tried turning my water green(not pea soup green) but I have heard it softens up the apperence of the koi..meaning a youthful more apperence. To sway from that direction I usually add alot of refresh to my paste mix. Having doing this the paste couple of years it has soften the look of my fish, and the skin glows. I know for a fact that Duke season his fish in "green water" this way the bigger fish can maintain a more youthful look...

Akinosan gets DQ'd at koi show for using Armor Alll on his koi..

Not only is green water good for the luster, but clay and paste food with tomato juice seem to help color and luster.

Tomato juice, sounds interesting Mark...What kind of paste food do you use or make?

It's an interesting thread but how would one go about getting their water green? At this time of the year, if I turned off my UV I would see no significant change in my water.

Talk your water provider into adding 4ppm phospate like mine does. Instant green water without UV.
