Red Devil pond pump - pipe size

This post is directed at people using the above pump. I had a conversation with the dealer who sold me the above pump and they said it is best if I used 1.5" piping in the outlet rather than 2" piping. His reasoning is that there will be too heavy a head of water with 2" piping. Is that true? I presume if it is feeding a shower and hence not under pressure, that would not be the case. Is there any comparison out there of flow through 1.5" and 2" piping for these pumps? Any help appreciated.

Bunyip, my understanding is the larger the pipe this less the head restriction.

I go 2".

Still very pleased with the preformance of my Red Devil. I'm thinking of investing in 'many' more.

The meter is telling me I'm using 95 watts for near 2,500 gallons an hour at this point in time (14,000 pump).

That's good enough for me!
