| Here's a copy of the letter the customer sent me.
Tom,
I have attached a photo of my current set-up. The Artesion is on the left. It is working fine. No problems with air getting into it like the Dragon pump (it is hooked up to the same lines as the Dragon when the Dragon was getting air inside so the problem is not with air in the lines, it is the Dragon pump!). The Dragon pump is hooked up to the right. As you can see, I have a very short intake line that goes straight into the settling tank. This line has been tested and there are no leaks. The outlet side of the Dragon pump goes to my UV and then to my waterfall.
The attached video clip shows the problem very clearly. When I shut the pump down and close the intake line (backflow valve is removed), water is gravity fed back to the pump from the line that goes up to the UV light causing water to fall back into the pump. As you can see, the water leaks through the lid indicating that the lid does not seal correctly. I don't know of any clearer way to demonstrate the problem. The lid is on as tight as it can go and water still comes out. Clearly the lid does not seal correctly!
William Lim tested the pump on a "no load" system when I took it there last time and I am sure they tested it the same way (very short intake with water above the pump flowing down and very short outflow). This puts very little pressure on the seal of the lid. In a normal system, there is a greater strain put on the pump and this may be why he cannot duplicate the leakage (I wonder if he is intentionally putting it on a no load system so he can say it doesn't leak). What they should have done was hook up an air line to the pump and fill the pump with air and use a gauge to see if the air pressure drops. Their test of the pump proves nothing! I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt the first time I brought the pump in (that they truly felt their test was adequate). But now that they have had the pump a second time with specific info about load conditions being a factor and they refused to do a pressure (load) test, I think they are just trying to avoid supporting and backing their products.
I am very disappointed in the customer service for this pump. I have wasted time and money on this pump (buying new O-rings, going to William Lim's shop, buying a second pump,etc.). If that is the service they provide, I think people should know about it. I am considering posting my experience on the internet at koi chatrooms and on our club's website. I may also put an article in our next newsletter as well so other club members can hear about it. I think I will forward it to other club presidents so they can inform their club members as well. It is a shame they do not support their products (especially since William even told us that he had a problem with the mold along the lid for these pumps!). Take a look at my video clip and let me know if I am missing something here. I am open to discussion, but as it stands right now, I am convinced that the Dragon pump lid leaks.
I will certainly discuss my problems with this pump at the next club meeting as well and see if anyone else has another opinion or explanation. |
