Sakuma Showas

Can anyone tell us anything about the breeder Sakuma? We've seen one that we are kind of interested in, but don't know anything about the breeder. Thanks.

Sakuma is very famous on breeding Showa and Kohaku. I believe he is rated one of the top breeders after Sakai,Momotaro,..

Sakuma is run now by the 2 sons, their gosanke overall is about equal..but a little more known for Showa and Kohak...They mostly base their keito on Dainichi bloodlines. They are probably in the top 10 in breeders.

Ditto, Kohak and SHowa.. I plan to visit them this year again. The are from Isawa which is south of Niigata. The Brother do run the Show and are probably one of my most favorite people as the Brothers and Mom are so inviting..

Sakuma- the business was started by Kanichiro in 1967. Maruichi took over and his sons Hajime and Hitoshi run the show now. Sakuma produces Kohaku, Sanke, Doitsu Sanke and "old style" Showa & Gin Rin Showa. They sell most of their Tosai and Nissai. 15 mud ponds in Niigata, 24 in Yamanashi, 16 concrete ponds. Showa from Dainichi & Kobayashi(5 pair Oyagoi + 1 pr gin run Showa). Sanke from Sadazo & Matsunosuke(3 pair). Kohaku from Manzo & Murata(3 pair). All parent koi 90cm+. Largest Tosai- 47cm, Nissai- 60cm. Several 1st places in the ZNA All Japan. Parent koi as old as 40 years.
