If you could only pick one

If you could pick only one koi out of your pond to be the best in your pond, what one would it be? How long have you had it? What kind of growth are you getting out of it? If you have a picture of it please post it.

Very tough descision. My heart leans towards a Doitsu SHowa I picked up at Shinoda's on my first trip to Japan. Since the koi was my first I bought and also due to the quakes... She holds a special place in my heart... Sorry no pic... I haven't bowled her for almost 3 years...

my koi is on my avatar as well. She was Quality koi's #1 nisai last year. She is still in the growth pond and is due out the 22nd of october. She was 17 1/2 inches when purchased and i hopeful for about 21-22. her pond mate kimiko
is equally up there because of the circumstances how i aquired her. She is out of magoi bloodline and has grown several inches out in my pond. I only had her for 2 years and I'll bet she's 26 inches when she comes inside.

from an olde timer stand point my akamae kigoi was 7 when acquired and is now
close to 30 years. She pretty much quit growing any increments once she hit 24 inches. She looks out of place with all the asagi's but I'm sentimentally involved with her. besides my family said if i ever got rid of her, I'd never see the next day! (LOL)

The only other koi i have is an asagi, actually a sister of the one in the growth pond. I traded her for a matsukawabake i bred to the Anderson's.She's 3 and i expected the asagi han to come on stronger but it's like watching grass grow. The body confirmation is extraordianary and I hopeful her sister will be built the same. Her red is alive and threatenes to go over the lateral line so just no color food for her!

depending on how ther babies come out (I'm looking for a male) I'll have 1 maybe 2 to winter over inside with the bigger girls.

I will be looking on my trip this fall to quality koi for a nice shusui. Gene Anderson who bought their #1 shusui last fall , has given me some hope as well as his turned out. I quess i like all my koi but the one in the growth pond is the hope and expectation for this year. I quess that is always part of keeping koi....the anticipation and suspense....

As I look in my pond now I would get rid of my frineds Maruyama Kohak in my pond. It was given to me as Jumbo Tosai and I have learned that the best way to select Maruyama in general is to buy as Nisai or Sansai.

I don't really have a favorite but this one is near the top of the list for me. It hasn't grown much but I haven't pushed either since it is pretty well finished at 12" .
