I may be wrong but...... Hachi (bowl or pot.. also the number 8) refers to the rounded or vee shape sumi on the forehead. Men (face or mask) refers to the sword or lightning strike on the face. Either is acceptable and desireable. Have seen many showa and utsuri with both. So we have a bowl shaped mark (hachiware) or the sword strike across the face (menware). If I'm wrong please at least be kind in letting me know.

Hachiware is a divided head.

Hachi means head and ware means dividing i think.

So,

A pattern that divides the head. Sumi of the head appears on the Utsurimono family such as Showa, Shiro and this is what it descibes in this family of Koi.

It can be used to describe Hi in Kohaku but is used less often in this way.

Good Hachiware runs from the mouth to the shoulder in a Inazuma (Lightning) pattern and makes the Koi look more powerful.

Menware is the same thing and the words are interchangeable. The only differance is that Men means face, But in Koi keeping head and face mean the same thing.

Think that covers it guys. I hope i'm right in my descriptions.

Hachiware:
Divided head. Hachi means 'head', Ware means 'dividing'. Sumi pattern that divides the head. Also called Menware. Men means 'face' but in Koi both 'head' and 'face' refer to the same thing and are this used interchangeably. Sumi of the head that appears on the Utsurimono family such as Showa Sanshoku. Good Hachiware runs form the mouth to the shoulder in an Inazuma pattern and makes the Koi's pattern appear to be more dynamic.
Menware
Head divided. Describes a Sumi pattern seen only in Showa Sanshoku or Shiro Utsuri that divides the head. An ideal Menware (also interchangeably called Hachiware) runs in an Inazuma pattern from the mouth to the shoulder and gives the Koi an impression of power.

Here is what I found , and without any english mistakes because I just copy it from :
