Any updates from the homeland?

We havent heard much stiff from the Homeland(Niigata) Less than 2 months I will find out.

But have any heard what is going on? Permits for some breeders.. Hard to get around? Limited koi selection?

5 weeks and counting . I heard that the selection is limiterd Joe. And that it is indeed very hard to get around, not like before, got to go this way and that way to get to breeders. We will see very soon. I can't wait to go this year.. And at the same time I am a little saddened that I will be seeing a different Niigata.. than seen in previous years.

The phrase

"Phoenix from the flames" seems very apt here.

I am sure that the breeders / Japanese being the resourseful people they are will endeavour to get back to the position they were in before the earthquake.

By doing this they will probably surpass that postion unknowingly and the Koi keeping community will be better for it.

No denial that it's gonna take time (Not this year) and travel / stocks etc will be more difficult this year but in years to come you will look back and think how much better things are because of the earthquake.

Hope to hear of many of the famous names of Nigata over the next few weeks being open for buisness. As it really important that Dealers buy from them to help them through.
The easy option is to go south (Hiroshima) etc and you would no doubt get the Koi you were after and then some - but now is a time to be loyal to those breeders in Nigata.

Nancy, I am going to try to take the same pics as last year. or at least the same spots so can see a comparison.. This is going to be more of an adventure and curiosity trip for me rather than buying trip. Thats means I can go to ALL JAPAN in Jan!

Isawa sakai sent out an email, and their site is updated with their harvest schedule. They have said that while it has been a struggle, they have nearly as many mud ponds to harvest as b4 the earthquake. They are expecting a good harvest.
