Jees, what, do want to live forever? I tried to have my dog lick a Koi's wound and everything disappeared, including the fish!

Hi Guys...I am a foot doctor, so I treat tons of wounds. Never let a dog..or person lick your wound. Dogs can give a pasturella multiceda (sp?) infection...humans can give eikenella corodens(sp?) infection. You dont want these!!! Also..pond water can have pseudomonas/aeromonas. Two infections you also dont want. If you think a wound is infected...get to the doctor asap!!! Look for pus, redness, swelling, pain, fever...etc...and get to the doctor!!!!

Hey Chris, yes that is my pond, before it cleared up. I'll have to take another picture and have Joe resize it for me. The fish are loving it!

Cool!!!! Looks good! From the little pic it looks like you made quick work of doing the finishing touches? I haven't been over that way in a while, but I'd love to see it. I was trying to get over to Champ and Genki last weekend but it didn't happen.

bUT UNFORTUNATELY i AM NOT ALLOWED TO

it does involve a very famous breeder who used to wade his mudponds thru his youth. He picked up something very bad and almost lost his life.

While I can appreciate steve's suggestion I think I would prefer to use the sterile wipies that you can quickly disinfect with ( handi wipes) and try and show some regard for prevention.

It is real and it can be serious.

If you were to see some of the sh*t* I've worked in with koi, I should be dead.

Perhaps I've just been lucky, but I'm a practical guy and I have always cuts on me. I heal well!

I'm from the dirty band, I ate mud as a child.

I couldn't do my job with wipes, they'd be too soggy!

Maurice.

Thanks for posting the links, it was an extremely sad story, and one that should make everybody think a bit.

Nobody is suggesting that we should wear gloves at all times, but I for one will definitely wear them if I have the slightest cut or nick and will be putting my hands in pond water.

I also fully support the `Healthy Hands` campaign that Mark Gardner is advocating, in tribute to his late Father.
