Open Wounds infected by Pond bacteria

If you have a cut on your hand and work in the pond or filter area. Perhaps not such a good Idea???

Have heard many cases of this and some that have been on Antibiotics for a year.

Any known cases of death?

Do you chance it..

I read a thread where a guy (in France I think) died from a bacterial infection from a open wound and pond water. I don't think about it, my hands always, and I mean always have cuts on them, and I don't give it a second thought, pond water isn't going to kill me (I hope ), hell, I have to work on very nice crappers on some of my customers floating homes periodically, that will kill me, can you say Ooooooo Weeeeee? I do was my hands about every 30sec though.

this year 1 died

Unfortunately one of the british dealers father died this year from blood poisoning.
He was helping the dealer with bottom drain maintenance and cut him self on the drain was in hospital within 48 hours and died within two weeks.(hope my details are correct).
I personally usually have cuts and have my hands in the water daily ok so far but maybe i should wear long thick gloves up to the elbow.
When i have cuts on my legs my dog cleans them for me and they heal quickly and the things that go past her lips are not nice so maybe a bit of bad bacteria is good for you?

Eat your vegetables, get lots of sleep, keep a strong immune system, and don't worry about it. Anything can happen, but if you start obsessing about stuff like this you will eventually find yourself afraid to go out of the house.

Ten years ago, a guy working about 200 yards from here died of Leptosporosis.

I remember hearing that dog saliva has antibacterial properties...

Anyhow, I think bekko has the right idea. BUT this is yet another reason to keep the DOCs and bad bacteria levels low. The same bacteria that eats at that nasty wounds on fish will also get you. In addition, you should think twice about the antibiotics you apply to the pond environment because the bacteria will become resistant and then those antibiotics won't work on you if you get infected.

I think that is the biggest myth...

Remember, that dog licks its own rear and eats cat poop before licking you..

If it was true maybe we should have old fido go and lick the infection on your koi...

LMAO!
