Smile Nishikigoi at your pace

How many tons of water do you maintain as a koi keeper? I believe 1 ton equals about 270 US gallons. An average swimming pool is about 65 tons. A glory pond in Nichirin is about 10 tons. Mr. Meada's holding ponds range from 100 tons to 1500 tons.

The water ton or tonne was formerly used in UK and equal to 224 imperial gallons. This is known as the long ton
Some of the confusion is based on the fact that an imperial gallon, 10.02 lbs. of water weight is larger than a US gallon which weighs 8.34 lbs water.
The (UK) long ton weighs 2240 lbs.
The (US) short ton weighs 2000 lbs.
So a (UK) ton is equal to 224 imperial gallons
a (US) ton is equal to 239.8 US gallons
As far as which ton, short or long Mr. M uses, I have never seen it mentioned. I suspect he could be using the UK long ton would be my guess.

Smile International System

Keep your calculators out. There is another ton measurement and this is the one Mr.M uses, quote in Koi-Bito "You were the first in the business to build a 1500 metric ton concrete pond". OK a metric ton = 1000 kilograms or 2,204.6 lbs.
Divide by an imperial gallon which ways 10 lbs or US gallon which is 8.34 lbs.
1 Metric ton equals 220.46 imperial gallons or 264.34 US gallons.
That is the International Ton conversion, Now,what do the Brits use? I hope the long ton. I give up, wait a minute, didn't someone say this already? 264.2 (US) gal. OK close enough.
