Sakai Fish Farm

Hello,

since I will be selecting two nisai koi from Sakai Fish Farm of Hiroshima in the Koi Water Barn tategoi challenge, I was wondering if y'all could help me.

I will be looking for 2 kohaku or a kohaku and a showa. I have seen the pictures of the oyagoi used by SFF, and I really love the body of SFF koi, especially kohaku. But I have no experience selecting koi from SFF, and how they wil develop.

Can you tell me what to look for and what not?

Thanks,

Regenmeneer

I think when choosing Kohaks or any other Gosanke from Sakai Hiroshima, just look for a good spindle shape. What I have noticed for the Kohaks that SFF has they have really good bodylines (Sensuke) that have made them champions for the last 12 years. They tend to fill out very good when they mature.

Hi

Thats just why I love them so much, the body shape. But what is an indicator for jumbo potention in a SFF kohaku? Backbone? And if so, what should it look like on a nisai?

And which is/are the top kohaku oyagoi from SFF?

Hi

Wil Kentaro attend the KWB extravaganza though? If he does, this would be the best option.

But it might not be allowed to let him pick, and they may not tell me from which oyagoi the koi are.

Are there any pointers what to look for to select a SFF kohaku with jumbo potential? Could anyone tell me how the backbone should look, how the proportion of the different body parts should be?

I must say that right now my top oyagoi are Fujiko, Tsuki-tsuke rose, Ichimatsu rose and benibana.

Surfin the web to find more info I noticed that on the SFF site there are only kohaku bloodlines/oyagoi described in detail?! Any thoughts??

The most important parts of selecting SFF koi are the bodyshape and the skinquality, this will give alot of the quality of the fish.

The keito depends on the parent. Good parents are Benibana, Benihanako, Ruby, Miss universe, Olive, Popeye, Fuyo, Tsuke Tsuke Rose, Fujiko, Beauty smile ...
There are so many good one

The Hi doesn't have to be as red as blood, but deep. With deep I mean flexible red. This hi will get darker with ageing.

If you want more information about a certain parent, just contact me.

I've visited SFF already 5 times and each time I was surprised of his quality!!!

Jay, do you have any pics of your SFF fish? For Kohak what keito parent do you prefer?

You can see many koi on www.tviske.be where some are SFF koi.
For Kohaku I like a few parents a lot.
Beauty rose is very nice because of her bodyshape and growthpotential.
Ruby has a really superb skinquality but is more skinny than the others.
I also like Tsuke Tsuke Rose because of the body and the shape of the head, however, koi of this parentset are more difficult to grow to jumbokoi.
Very nice is Benibana, but the mother has passed away, jumped out of the pond, two years ago. Sakai still breeds with an offspring of Benibana called Benibana-daio, she has a nice quality, but not the same as the mother.

I hope this can help you a little
