Koi Unit,

You hit the nail on the head:A,B,C. It's all about conformation.

Hey, Akinosan, me & you, Amidanokai 2006. We can take our koi with us as carry-ons in Big Gulp cups from Speedway Quik Mart. We'll see who's laughing then.......

Edit: OK, well maybe not that particular, specific koi, since keokoi just informed me that it is DEAD. I better drop out of Good, Better, Best games if I can't even tell if the daggone fish are alive or not. Should have asked we'll see who is laughing right now, hahahaha

I'm sure we still have a few other koi left that would meet size qualifications....

a-c-b is the way i see it. If the kohaku had more bulk it would have been a tougher decision over the sanke. i did like the show but besides geisha hands the black was not finished. oh well maybe next year!

My personal choice is a close one... A, C, B. A is one I am sure of, but the other two are so close. All of them are gorgeous!!!

Hi aquitori,

By Blocky head do you mean chubby cheeks (Sanke). Does the koi having its mouth closed and the other two open help show this
It looks like it is a bit narrow across the gills as it meets the shoulder compared to the Showa, who's head does look slightly shorter though wider.
Is this preferable?
I am keen to learn, as the Showas head leading into the shoulders looks more appealing to me and the chubby cheeks will come with age. Am I getting it wrong in my thinking?

Wink

Tony

I would agree with you except for:1- The pecs on the sanke are too far forward and 2 - the head is, from what I can see, slightly pinched at the back of the gill plates. This will keep this fish from growing larger

On the other hand, the kohaku has the body conformation to grow VERY large. Long head and excellent conformation especially from midline to the tail joint.

Don't get me wrong bro - I'd kill to have either one swimming in my pond. You are correct about the scarcity of sanke of this caliber - but kohaku of this caliber are very far and few between too. I'll let you know what I find in Japan .
