How long can it take Bacteria House to dry

Hi guys

Some of you may know I am moving to sydney very soon, in a few day s from now as a result I have had to pull my 30 ton pond apart

The pond has only been running for a year and fully functional for 9 months. Anyway I decided to take out the bacteria house and let them dry in the shade under my pergoda. I thought 2 days should be enough. I needed to ship them to sydney in 10 days time so I thought if i start now it should only take 2 days.

2 days came by and the bacteria house still felt damp, I decided to wait a whole week. When 1 week passed i took out ten kg of new bacteria house which was the only ten kg among 160kg or old bacteria house. to my surprise the bacteria house weighed 16kg, now take away 1kg for the box it came in thats still 15kg and the bacteria house was still slightly damp on the outside.

I have dried it now for 2 days in full sun spread out in a single layer and its still 12kg (minus box) With discovering that I feel safe knowing my filter will still work after a week of no electricity (if it happens).

interesting observation. let us know how quick the filters start up again...

I have a wholesaler friend who turns his off and stores wet thru the winter and then starts up the next spring and within days can introduce fish safely.

Good luck on the move Tewa. Maybe you have something there, bacteria house could be delivered occupied with high performance bugs to shorten cycle time.

You are right KK filter media is the only industry where i think used with a cycled biofilm will be acceptable

I was thinking about what could have been used or can be used to filter all that polluted water they are pumping out of Lousiana. Talked to a friend that flew over the Gulf and he saw an enormous mess. Need a giant bakki house with bacteria that eats petroleum.

it is a nasty mess kk, the whole place got flooded with waste water and trash from every can and sewer, plus all the floating debris and biological nightmare from labs, hospitals, and very other imaginable place. That's not to mention the dead bodies of both humans and animals everywhere and the feast the gators are having on them. I don't think there is any way they will ever know how many died exactly, how many moved, how many were eaten by gators, and how many were washed out to sea. Very sad.

I think the cleanup teams are going to have to spray the whole area for biological disaster, and search for contamination. The problem with the BHM idea is the shipping cost for that much media, not a bad idea though. They could just drop huge crates of it in the rivers and streams to filter. if I can secure the contract I think Carl should let me in on it......lol

Then they woudln't have to pump it around over and over, just strategically place the crates so the water passes a bunch of times in rapids areas. Otherwise it's not even going to be safe to wash your hands or shower there for years, and forget about drinking the water. I think one thing they will have to sort out is how to deal with the affect on the surrounding area's biology and agriculture. Upsetting the balance of nature can have nasty consequences. This storm definitely did that. BHM could certainly help set that right.

One thing though, the drinking water there now opens a door for water bottling companies to help and to make some money. Help now, be on the block to make money later. Let's see what happens. Might be a smart stock buy, buy now when margins are low due to giving water away, sell when it rises due to the sudden increase of sales with no end in sight.

One of my business associates keeps trying to talk me into a water purification and bottling plant. He will dig the wells (we have great soft water low tds here in some places). He already has four wells ready and waiting. I am not going to do anything until the equipment to purify and bottle appears to do it with. Every grey cloud has its silver lining. I am about to talk to the dept of agriculture, let's see what they are thinking about that issue. I know the current companies cannot handle such a large area suddenly being totally dependent on bottled water for drinking, cooking, and bathing on no notice.

You really got me thinking now kk, why did u do that? lol

I am barely alive JG

mate it is hardwork I hate it i am downsizing to a temporary pond probably only 5000L for the moment until I know the area well enough and maybe purchase a home then my fun begins again the many sleepless nights of planning the next bakki shower pond, next one is probably airlift stream flow system.

The timing of it is all no good as I have to be in china on the 17th of Oct to around the end of the month.

Now lets see where can we grow some petroleum eating bugs? But on a serious note seeing the shots of the city here on tv and the way the citizens were living in the 1st week was truly sad.
