Testing ORP

Hi All,

Does anybody monitor or test their pond water ORP?

If so what kind of numbers do you get?

Do you do anything based on these readings?

I haven't started yet, but plan on buying a meter here shortly.

Numbers from what I remember reading should be in the area of 250-350. Maybe someone can confirm that????

The numbers Chris has posted are Ideally where you want them.. Some strive Higher and use PP and or Ozone for high reading. RobR I know does a lot of tests and is into these gadgets. I have a meter I just startd to use. My water tests 310. Some meters need to be calibrated.

Hi Russ,

Yep i do test for ORP in fact i test for most things and my pond runs at around 300-330.

Do i do anything yes i keep and eye on how the pond is functioning and will tell me hoe polluted the water is with organic waste/material. The lower the reading the more organic waste is in the system which will normally increase the TDS levels. So if the level was to start dropping i would know that the filters would need cleaning.

i would also use this and think its a very important tool if you are to use PP in the system

my figures

yeah i use one,

i do not fully trust the figure though ,mine reads at about 430 ish i read up to 450 was good .

some people use two meatures as they can be inaccurate so i take mine as a pinch of salt .

but when i first put it on it was at the same time as i started up a bakki shower and the figure shot up over night !

Hi Andy,

Is your battery powered????as when the battery is low or starting to degrade the reading does start to creep up.You can also get calibration fluids to check it out.

430 Andy, are you sure.

Mine runs at 305-295 dependant on morning/evening (pH swing). I consider this to be a good reading, with very clean filters.

my readings

Sorry its taken so long to reply but i work very long hours,as i said before i do use one but i do not trust the reading, mine is made by american marine inc.

If you read koi kichi 2 it states that between 300 and 475 are the best figures, is my pond between these two i doubt it, but thats what the meter says!

I also own 2 hanna tds meters do i believe the figures nope, I take them with a pinch of salt.If i add up my gh and kh readings they do not match what the meter says.(i bought my second one last week) or are the gh and kh test kits out.

I also have lots of temperature gauges they also read differently which one is correct ?If i had an old fashioned mercury temp gauge i would be more inclined to believe that one though.
