Removing Chloramines

Last year I was thinking about getting this unit http://www.h2ofilter.net/product.asp?i=228 to add to the pond when doing water changes, but our local water company is now adding chloamines to the water. Out of tap we see 1.5 to 2.0 ppm in ammonia. This unit will not remove the ammonia from the water. Does anyone know of a good unit I can add to the pond for water changes?

Nothing that I know of will remove ammonia other then a biofilter or aeration. Unless you are doing very larger changes, in which case an ammonia binder would be needed, an established biofilter should handle the load just fine. This is what I do, ST to break bond and remove chlorine, leave ammonia for filtration to take care of.

Activated carbon (activated charcoal) is not completely effective, but will get chloramines down to about 0.1 ppm. Did you know that many RO units will not remove chloramines.

There is a product made by Aqua Science Research that will totally oxidize ammonia, chloramines and heavy metals right out of the system. If you use a binder then the ammonia stays in the water. Salt will release ammonia from most binders and this could create a huge problem. The product is call the Ultimate. Hikari bought the rights to private label the product as well. It is expensive, but it works.
Nishi8, I have been using Ultimate for the last few months and it does work great. I was told by someone they make some kind of chip that will going into this other filter. I was wondering it that was true.

Thanks!
