You see something new everyday

During feeding time, I usually remove the netting from my pond to keep the koi from injuring themselves while eating. Unfortunately, the netting is my only protection from heron fly bys as our pond is right next to a creek. I have been a victim heron attacks where they cleaned me out twice and the third stabbing an asagi I used to have.
So any time I feed, I keep an eye out for them. But anyone expect a squirrel? LOL!

A squirrel? I have noticed during the morning I get squirrels also and they like to find any extra koi pellets hiding under our netting which we built with wood and heavy duty screening...keeps a lot of things out but you would be surprised that a heron will still land and spear a koi through the screen type netting....they just never give up...we call them terminators.

Dude, I bet your skimmer is right there and it is a No-Niche... That feller is looking for some food and maybe checking out your Kohak and judging it..

Cool thing is maybe its cleaning your skimmer for you. Bad thing is you don't know where its been since you live near the creek

Squirrel

Could be looking for a drink. Not that he wouldn't eat a fish if it jumped out and was on the ground, I just don't think that it would be very successful at catching one. You say, "No way"? Have you ever seen nesting birds drive squirrels off in the spring? Dive bombing them etc. They are stealing young of the year and eating them. Squirrels look like furry little innocents, but they are rodents and animals of opportunity. I wouldn't sweat it much, but wouldn't encourage him to visit often either.

Dick, a non politically correct solution can solve your problem with a 22 rimfire in the country and in the city a .177 pellet rifle.

Squirrels

Love cayenne pepper have some in a small container that I even take to work along with garlic and a pepper grinder. The squirrel would be lovely in some nice virgin olive oil, sprinkled with cayenne, garlic clove and maybe a twist of basil. Serve with a white sauce over pasta. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.
