Visitor to the koi pond

This red-tail hawk dropped in on my parent's koi pond last evening. (I send my "B-Team" koi over there--don't tell my mother, she thinks the all-white ones are extra expensive!!)

The hawk was obviously ill and allowed me to get within 4-5 feet to take these pix. My mother had hosed it down trying in vain to scare it off, for fear that her koi were in danger!

Animal control picked it up this morning; once captured we could see it had an injured leg. The hawk will be treated and hopefully released.

Beautiful bird; I hope he can be rehab'd. You still have nice "wild" areas out there in CA; they'll probably return him there.

Beautiful predators aren't they. I have always admired birds of prey. Glad that you gave the bird some help. Love raptors - don't like Herons, egrets etc - damn fish eaters can stay away thank you very much. That one is more of a squirrel / rabbit eater than a fish eater.
