OK, the "lingua franca" of koi will be of the Japanese in origin, it works well. I can not find translation of fry. I give. Bu is word for size also refers to centimeters but no fry. I did come across this comment from old KB threads which I thought was interesting. Every fish kept in captivity is stunted in some degree whether in a pond or an aquarium. Do you think a koi that is grown normally in a lake to 36 inches and then put into a prestine 70 ton tank, suffers any set backs?

KK, Bu does mean "size" but does NOT mean "centimeter". The reason people get confused is that in Japanese shows, a given size is equal to that number of centimeter. It woould be like us call size 15 as 15 inches.

Yes, Thank you Steve, Bu does not "mean" centimeter it "Refers" to centimeters. As in size 14 refers to 75-80 cm in male koi.

In our neck of the woods, we have "kanasai" i.e. tategois that turn out like s*!t. I suppose the word "Tatagoi" is also applicable when we bag the koi and send it away and wave goodbye.

Seriuosly when too many koi terminologies are used by some posters, you can really get lost and there is no koi-tionary in sight!

I would love to Doug but my family has been banned cause my Grandfather burnt all the Golf greens one Xmas with too much fertilizer 25 years ago. I can still see the red faces in that club house...enjoy!

Thanks Steve, some of the terms that I did not know, now I will, thanks a bunch, as some of the terms used I would get lost in the reading now this will help Printing it out now to study When you start following a thread like this and you get some great info, now that is what Koi-Bito is all about.
