Koi died

Lost a koi yesterday, have not idea why, did not see any sign of ill health and koi was only about 13 inches, I have had the koi for over a year and was eating good day before. The koi looked fine, no skin problem or anything. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what happened to the koi. If it had shown some signs of ill health I could understand this but it didn't.

Some mystery deaths I have seen. Mixed fish size in pond, one koi will suck up smaller fish racing for food and gag. Small spike mark behind head, bird bill penetration hole. Sorry

Sorry guys, I dont have what it takes to cut on koi or anything smelling loud after being dead a day, The koi was fine the day before with no apparent heath problems, so it could have been a heart attack. Guess I need to try and develope the bellieeeeeeee for it. Just the thought makes me sick. By the way I did notice that he stunk.

KFG, stomach it so that koi had a purpose.. You never know what you might learn or help you learn to prevent such a mishap in the future..

Mystery deaths can happen. Perhaps the koi jumped and hit itself on something?????

I have read about this as well. Something like growing koi really fast where the body gets big but the organs don't have time to catch up.. I think it was JR who said that years ago back at KV.. I forget..
