Question Dollars and Sense (Yen, Euro and Pounds too...)

Folks,

I know that I've been threatening this for a long time now...but the new revamped Koi-Bito website is almost ready to go live! I know, I know...you'll believe it when you see it, but do be prepared!

Anyway, online shopping is going to become a much better experience for you all, as your website and forum account will be one and the same after a bit of initial wrangling. Your billing and shipping addresses and some additional info will be stored along with your account, so you won't have to do a lot of typing each time you place an order. This will indeed be a good thing.

Now on to the real reason behind this post: Are many of you either confused or put off by paying in Japanese yen? Would it be easier if I were to switch to say...US Dollars? I understand that the denomination that the Yen is traded in make prices look larger than they actually are, and this seems to be putting a lot of people off.

I can switch to US Dollars for the online shop, and you can then in turn select either Yen, Euro, Pounds once redirected to our payment processor WorldPay to complete your order. Would this make things more understandable for you folks? I want to do what's the easiest for my customers, so let's have a show of hands right here and now!

I don't mind the yen at all. Thing is, when I am looking at a large price list it is just too time consuming to do all the math. Also, the exchange rates change everyday, so it is hard to know exactly how much you would like in US dollars for something that is a set price.

For instance, here in the Carribean there is a newsletter in Spanish that goes around to all the pet shops and the breeders. I can put a thing in there about your magazine, and also your advertising prices and products for folks, many of them sell things that would be wise to advertise with your magazine or site. But, they will want it quantified in US dollars without changing every day.

For me, if I am trying to get folks to buy a product or advertising, they need to know the price isn't going to be changing all the time and exactly how much you want. Makes their life simpler. Here folks not only don't think in Japanese, they don't even think in English. US dollars they can all relate to.

I don't care either way. You can go to yahoo currency or any other tool to get price in local currency. http://quote.yahoo.com/m5?a=1&s=jpy&t=usd

Magazine

Hi, Brian:

Because I enjoy the Koi Bito web site so much, I really would like to subscribe to the magazine. But, I have a problem in that the only computer I have to use is at work and, although they don't mind my viewing non-offensive (read:non-pornographic) web sites on my lunch and personal breaks, ANY commercial transactions are STRONGLY discouraged on the government's computer.

I did have a computer at home, but when it caught a virus and crashed, I suddenly found myself with much more time available to do things with the pond and fish, so I never got around to getting the thing fixed. Except when I want to buy something, I never miss not having a working home computer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

S. Stone

I asked the same question a while back and am still waiting for an answer. My situation isn't governement, it has to do with joint accounts and an agreement we all made due to too much fraud a few years back, not to give out the digits to the cards or accounts anymore, to protect us all. We all also found as soon as we did that, and put the accounts under different names and pulled out ss#s off them, the supper time telemarketing calls ceased. Oh what joy, eating again in peace!

Can we mail order a subscription with a money order or check?

Also still waiting for those ad prices in US dollars, the folks I talk to won't have any clue how to quantify yen.

No, I have no way to cash a check here in Japan for such a small amount. You can probably pay me on PayPal with a check though.

OK, how about some set prices in US dollars for the ads? Just use the 114 figure?

Also, if oyu could enlighten as to how to go about paying via check through paypal, it owuld help me. I have never used Paypal, we cut up the cards before paypal became a big thing. I am under orders to use money orders, but a check is doable occassionally to someone we know and trust.
