At every show I learn a bit more about seeing what I am viewing.

for me its a venue that I can see many different koi from different breedes and comparing them next to another. Also seeing what people are keeping and how they are keeping them. Talking to the owner and asking about the koi and its home and what it eats. Talking to so many people lets you know what you have to do and the time involved to keep the condition up in a koi..

Getting the opportunity to work with Steve Childers and Art Lempke and learning the correct way to bowl a koi. They make it look so easy.

I learned the level of hobby at each show. I watch the different judging that goes on. I think the main thing I have learned is that koi shows are fun, regardless who wins or loses everyone are still friends.

We have learned many things at all the shows we attend and participate in. First all judges have there own style of judging. Second, never assume your fish will win just because it won at the previous show. Third buy a koi because you like it not because a dealer told you it was show quality and that it could win.. You might be very disappointed. Fourth and most importantly have fun with fellow hobbiest, the koi world is a small world of it's own. And everyone knows someone.. So always try to play fair and be humble.. Otherwise it could bite you in the butt when you least expect it.

Learning

I really enjoy the shows that the judges walk all the tanks the following day and discuss the pros and cons of each fish and ask if the audience has any questions. This has helped my eye sharpen tremdously. The two shows that come to mind this year that left an impression was the CFAK in Orlando and Atlanta.

Huh?

So what were you doing on Sunday mornings at Chantilly and Denver? I guess I am going to have to keep a closer eye on you!
