What I am curious to know is how did Brady grade these koi?

I will still go with my pick. Out of the three koi I still like it. I know it's a old style showa, but like I said out of the three I would take that one.

Can you tell us a little more about the growth of these koi?

Tom

I admit I am easily confused but I thought we were looking at 3 koi, now one of the 3 isn't his and there are 5 koi ... are these rabbits

Anyway I like the last koi in the first set of pics, which I believe is the same one Tom picked. If I am picking it out correctly in the last set of pics, I still will pick it - pun intended.

Yeah each of these "looks" like they have some current imperfections...but MOST ALL of us have to buy koi at this level and pray..and Showas are one of the better crap shoots as they change so much.
Yhis exercise is all about telling what you see these koi doing (and that was what was asked for) not whether they are worthy of the being displayed In the All Japan Show...or your pond....
now what do you see these koi looking like today?
Luke, good post!

Brady, it looks like your Kindai set produces some interesting koi. I'd like to see more!
#1 is the koi that interests me.

Maurice.

thanks Maurice!

And yeah I'd love to have brady's thoughts on what dropped these koi down to the sales bins but not down to the fertilizer bin....

And of the RIGHT NOW pics i like the kindai-ish showa (especially the shiro)...but in two more years the middle koi is going to be the prize of the group (and that was my original choice).... the third fish looks traditional right now...and will look way to tradtional in another year or two....
Still all three fish have merits, and demerits...but the demerits are going to diminish on the middle fish...and that Kindai might be a "traditional showa" in two years.

Jackie, sorry for the confusion I messed up on the first post.
The last pics are of the three I own, with one pic of #1 and 2 pics of #2 and #3.
Luke, when I was shpping for these I thought #2 had the most potential, if all if every thing that makes a Showa worthy came together. At yr three I'm still very optomistic.
The Kindai #1 was my second choice, when I bought them. I wanted one of the new style Koi that Brady was developing and he fit the bill. I am falling in love with it's dovelopment and for me he's running neck and neck with #2 right now. However with Showas it's the long hall that matters, most take much more time (yrs) to develop, so we shall see.
#3 fish is a truely a black Showa, of the old style, and I'm liking him more and more.
Aquitori, I'm not sure what Brady thought of these fish when I bought them, except that they were in the price range I had in mind.
I'm sure, like any other breeder, when yr 2 comes around what they beleive to be the 'very best' fish are kept another season the rest are sold. That being said I really like what I got and feel greatfull to be their custodian.
Now for some stats. When I got these #1 was 10" and now is almost 14", #2 was 12" and now is 15", #3 was 9.5" and now is 13".
some would say that those growth rates are not impressive but that's OK I'll take the slow and steady any day.
Thanks for the fun,
Jim

For Mini soda that ain't bad growth, but yeah even if you added another 50% to their totals it would still be "slow and steady'. But how big is their pond? Like what size looks good in the pond? it ain't about how big, it is about how right they look in that setting.

There is not a good kohaku pattern in the lot of them. Fish #1 is looking good - for a sanke.

Hi guys-

I am a lucky guy and have had some Brady Showas. All of them grew fast and developed fast in my water and systems. All of them had wonderfully deep color though some of the side sumi nearer the tail was a bit shadowy. All of them had great head sumi. The fact that I had no fish with great three colored heads I always assumed to be a result of not applying enough cash during the selection process. Possibly the lack of kohaku pattern on these fish shows the same selection mistake that I made.

Prediction from me...continued addition to and refinement of exemplary head sumi.

Aside...nobody's venturing statements on the sex of these fish, though prediction/opinion about sex usually does come up right away. Any girls in these three?
