Keeping track of growth

How often do you guys pull your koi up to measures them and look them over? I have to say I have not been keeping real good track of growth on my koi. I think it's time to start today. I'm going to pull all of the koi out that are going to stay in the pond for another season or longer and keep a good log of the growth and health of eack koi. All the rest of the koi will be sold to make room for others.

Haven't measured them unless I have to pull one for inspection, then I use that koi as a benchmark and try to see how the other koi stack up length wise... Hate to net koi because of stress... Got a few tosai this year and am thinking of measuring them annually on the date we got them to see the yr. to yr. growth...

I only measure my koi when bagging for the koi show. But I keep records (breader, age, size, dealer, date of purchase etc..) of all koi when first release to my pond.

I generally measure my koi at the end of summer, just to see where they size up at. Pics are taken at this point so there is a complete record for reference.

Hi ,

I mesure my Koļ very often, they are not affraid of the net and they know they will receive a nice prawn after that. Anyway I try not to touch them if possible, but that allow me to inspect them and see if they have any skin problems.
The last inspection I found an adult Lernaea and i had just to remove it without making any treatment.
I inspect them each two month in summer and note all dimension in excel.
Hope I'm not mad ...

Typically.....

I net and measure once in the spring and once in the fall with photos taken at both times. This also allows me to inspect them going into and out of winter.

I measure all of my koi and take pics when I move them from my pond to the winterpond, and vice versa.

Typically we measure spring when going outside to the main pond and in the fall when coming back indoors. We photograph at this time as well. There are times when we will net to inspect the koi so we take advantage of that and record how they are progressing. We've found the more we net the more comfortable the fish seem to be with the handling. Those fish we do not net on a regular basis, well it takes a bit longer to catch them. After any netting we always give a few good treats!

I must say it is interesting to go back a few years and look at the changes in development and growth.

Kind Regards,
Terri
