Question Will you buy Momotaro Tosai

With the news of KHV invection in Momotaro Farm, should we buy Momotaro Tosai available in US? A couple of dealers offering Momotaro Tosai, delivered from Momotaro in September. Would it be wise to buy these koi now or wait until Spring 06? What is your expert opinion?

Truthfully...not a chance!!! I feel bad about what happened, but I wont even purchase koi from a dealer who is carrying momotaro. I have spent too much money, and lost too many koi to take a risk such as this. Maybe in a year or two..but definitely not now.

Honestly no, reason being you should not spend your time and money on tosai in the fall...OK now if these dealers test negative for KHV, that means they are safe. If you trust your dealer and their QT method then I would buy. As far as I know the dealers who have Momotaro Tosai have proved safe...But like a said why would you by tosai in fall....

KHV would have no effect on my decision to purchase. They are setting in dealer tanks in the temp range that would have already brought out KHV before now. Knowing the dealer you are probably refering to also, would not even give it a second thought.

the Klanishness of koi has even got a grip on me....and if I believed in what Momo stood for and I was a patron of his, I would most definitely buy from him, especially now.
I had to ask myself the question from the perspective of me willing to buy koi from a breeder I would have already purchased from and appreciated his work.
So only hobbyists that are actively buying Momotaro koi should be responding to this thread....

There is a dealer here close to my home who has had Momotaro koi for several years now. He recieved a shipment of tosai on the 8th on Septembre. I see these koi almost every day, and so far there have been no problems.

A friend of mine bought three from this shipment, they are being kept in a quarantine at 26 c and have no sings of KHV. As a matter of fact, they have grown 10cm in four weeks.

So I would not hesitate to buy one (if I wanted one of them)!

Yes i would especially if you know the dealer and there methods of quarantining.

I was hoping to pick up a couple from Mike (Yumekoi) for growing on this winter and with a bit of luck may get down to see him soon.

I'm not at all surprised that this question has arisen, and can understand peoples fears. Our last shipment of Koi from Momotaro arrived in early May of this year. We were due for a shipment after the auction, but this was cancelled, and the Koi were subsequently destroyed. BUT, I can confidently put my reputation on the line, and say that all shipments to the USA are absolutely fine, and that basically, any Koi shipped before mid September will be 100% fine.
Best regards,

Mike.
