Well after I bring in the koi for the winter I don't really do any treatment to the pond but I do clean out all leaves and crap from bottom of pond do a PP to the pond then shut down and drain my settlement and filter pit, clean all brushes and filter media , I also leave the bio media with air stone running all yr long and water Trickleing over them too. everthing else is shut down until spring .

Hi all

I don't pre treat in fact i haven't treated my pond in over five years
and have no probs,
I pal of mine pre treats all the time he is always losing fish.

No treatments as a precaution here. Haven't used medication since KHV in 1999.

Medicine is poison. A good medicine kills the pathogen before it kills the patient. While the patient may not be killed, it has still been exposed to poison - perhaps a small assault, but an assault nonetheless.

Ever notice how many times someone here posts about treating for some minor ailment, and things just go from bad to worse over the ensuing weeks. Its not coincidence, its not because bad things come in 3's, its because that initial dose of medicine has weakened the fish and its immune system is not able to fight off the next pathogen to come along.
