I don't know if you guy have met Henry in person. He is a very helpful, knowledgable and humorous person. We are so lucky that we have all enthusiastic koikichis like Mike McMahon, Henry,Merle Deland and many more. I used to be reluctant to show koi as you know it's pain in the neck to catch, bag, and transport koi to the show. All of my worries have been taken care by the club members. They are always available to give the helping hands whenever I'm in need. Thanks Mike McMahon for helping me bag koi yesterday.

Thanks for kind words Khanh. Here is a shot of one of Khanh's Kohakus. She was quite the ham for the camera. She would stop, flare her pecs and wait for the flash.

Here are the Koi Mike McMahon brought. A Maruyama Kohaku that he has grown from 7" to nearly 19" since March. Two very nice Brady showas. Hard to believe they are domestics. Brady is really ready to kick some major butt. Are you sure NC doesn't stand for "Niigata Central"?

Sorry for the glare. They would not a cooperative as Khanh's Kohaku.

This Asagi provided great teaching opportunity. For its age, it had just what you want to look for in a young Asagi. The beni is starting to develop from the belly up and was very even from front to back. The blue is not yet overpowering and has a few more years before providing that sharp reticulation we look for, but all the scales are lined up and sized perfectly. Each scale also had a very interesting white almost ginrin accent on the trailing edge that will really make them stand out as blue develops. The head was perfectly clean, which is rare for Florida. Is this an expensive Japanese import? Not a chance. Marty bought this Asagi from Joe Pawlak (Blackwater Creek) at 4” for a mere $20 back at the Central FL show last March. If Joe can keep that up, Orlando will be the place to come to get your Asagi.
Henry,
I cut and pasted the above to Joe, he said he has 40,000 of em....I think i am gonna go pick out a couple....I bought one from the ten dollar tank he had and it was beautiful, just as you described but it got nicked on the bottom lip and by the time i saw it it had disfigured the lip. And I described it to him as a Gin rin assagi. He said he didn't have any ginrin assagi...THANKS FOR BACKING UP WHAT I SAW.... here is the one i got from the $10 tank. it shined in my dark QT

I'm glad you got pics posted, Henry. I remain computer-challenged trying to access this board from home. So, my photos aren't doing much good.

It was a low key show...just kichi chatting koi in the shade of the trees, enjoying the surroundings and the fish. It was a nice way to spend a day. ....And not all the koi were "young koi". Henry posted the ones I took, and here's what he took.

.....Henry doesn't have small koi, but he supported the show by bringing two fine large ones for display. Others did likewise, so the public strolling through the gardens had a chance to see koi they'd never see otherwise. We surprised ourselves with about 50 entries and several more displayed.

Not bad for a first show. Maybe we will limit the number of tanks available next time so the atmosphere of this little show stays laid back. Hmmmm, actually, not a bad idea.

You can not beat oak trees, they are the King of trees. Congrats to the loosers too! Excellent location. Fingernail enamel will suffocate visiting chiggers from that "Graybeard".

Smile Pondhoppers reply

Thank you for inviting the Pondhoppers to your first young koi show. We truly had a great time chatting and showing our koi. The gardens were beautiful and mingling with the people was quite enjoyable. You couldn't have asked for a better day. The selection of quality koi was superb and Joe did have his work cut out for him. Excellent job to everyone who attended. Let's have fun and do it again next year.

I would like to personally thank Mike McMahon, Show Chair and Merle DeLand, Club President for envisioning this show and for securing this gorgeous show site. So many times we concentrate of the large shows, but this show brought back my love of the small show experience. No vendors, no raffles, just Koi. We had 3 first time entrants and I believe we now have 3 more Koi show addicts. The Orlando club had always concentrated on the extensive planning required to pull off the large March show, Central FL Koi Show and previously the All FL Koi Show. This show was a pure pleasure to hold. I’m sure the club will continue to hold this show each fall, but resist the temptation to grow the show larger.

Even with the smaller size of this show, it provided an excellent mix of great examples of all the varieties. You would think a small show is easy to judge. Not in this case. It provided a real work out for the judge, Joe White. For the top size, Joe had to decide between 8 top quality Kohakus. It required inspecting each very carefully. Several other varieties required breaking down each aspect of the Koi in order to rank them.

Now down to a few shots:

Photo 1&2: never have I been to a show with a more gorgeous back drop. Entrants and visitors could take in the Koi and the extensive gardens.
