| Koiphen Koi Nationals and the AKCA Due to conflicts arising from the scheduling of the Koiphen Koi Nationals on the same dates as 3 other AKCA club Koi Shows, concerns arose amongst some members of those and other AKCA club shows on how the Koiphen Koi Nationals would effect vendor support and attendance draw at the conflicting shows. Although it has long been the policy of the AKCA for judges to use their discretion when accepting judging assignments in non AKCA Koi shows, the judges who had accepted judging the Koiphen Koi Nationals included the AKCA judging committee itself. As such, the committee felt that since there were concerns over the conflicts created, that the issue should be heard by the AKCA board itself. Friday evening, October 14, 2005 the issue was heard before the AKCA Board. Every effort was made to collect points of view on both sides of the issue. The Koiphen Koi Nationals planning committee put together our points and supporting data on behalf of the show. In a majority decision, the AKCA board decided that although there were conflicts with other AKCA shows and although Koiphen is not an AKCA club, that Koiphen with its many AKCA members and ongoing support of the AKCA did not present a conflict for the AKCA judges and as such our judging team, as selected and accepted will continue to be the shows judging team. As a side note, the Koiphen Koi Nationals was never meant to negatively effect any other AKCA club, nor the AKCA as a whole, as it only intended to support and further the hobby and the AKCA. As the Koiphen Koi Nationals show chair, I will work with these other shows to minimize vendor conflicts and urge those Koiphen members who cannot be in Nashville next September for the Koiphen Koi Nationals to attend one of these local shows if at all possible. I am sure that all parties are glad to have these issues behind us so that planning can continue in order make each of these shows the most successful that they can be.
