What would your ultimate pond look like?

Hello

I'm wondering what your ultimate pond would look like, if there were no restrictions on space used and money spend

So, how big would it be, where would it be (I know, somewhere in Japan I guess), would it be natural, concete or liner, what type of filter would you use, the volume, how many koi in it, etc, etc?

Rgds

It would be very much like the Japanese hobbyist ponds shown in some of the Koi-Bito magazines. It would also be in a greenhouse.

Ha! ... it would look like the pond of the very wealthy Taiwan hobbyist whose pond JR is so fond of posting, but with more gardens on the viewer's side.

Right where it is, perfect water, hand picked boulders from North Carolina, concrete shell, great weather with no space restrictions. For visual impact, Niigata would be nice but pass on the snow and earthquakes. The only negative thing here is hurricanes by the way, I here there is one called Wilma headed this way. Category 5, lowest bar pressure recorded. That's respectable to say the least. Will be standing on my roof hugging my antenna shouting "bring it on" just like Lt. Dan if she appears.

My ultimate would be a series of ponds mixing styles - for the "good" fish, a very formal raised pond with simple Asian inspired design to really showcase the fish and let the pond fade into the background.

For the butterflies and goldfish I'd want an elaborate natural look that twists and turns around and through gardens and rockwork. I'd want it so wherever you stand you're only seeing a tiny piece of the pond - and huge gallonage with massive filtration so there could be large schools of koi passing through the various regions. And waterfalls. Big, loud, 10 foot tall waterfalls.

Well I feel very lucky as last summer I was able to build my ultimate pond. I'm sure Ill outgrow it if I live long enough. 8,000 gal ; Nexus 300 with Eazy ; BIG Zapp Pure UV ; two 4" bottom drains 4' deep ; two skimmers ; return via 4' tall by 14' long waterfall. Right now I have 11 koi of which 9 are definate keepers, 10 of the 11 are Japanese imports. I think about 20 fish will be the max. No mutts. I love the look of a lightly stocked pond with very nice ( not necessarily GC ) koi. I'll attach a photo if I ever figure out how.
