SMG's attitude is unfortunate. I am glad that there are many more koi lovers that are wanting and willing to be part of the solution. The koi slate auction to benefit KHV research on the auction site sponsored by this message board is a great example of koi people wanting to contribute to the hobby. Current high bid is over $2,300 U.S.

There are many khv research projects underway around the world. Numerous vaccine projects which seem to get the most publicity. A vaccine is a high probability to be developed. Wheather it will protect a koi for a extended period will depend on many factors with temperture being most important. Koi keeping may become a more temperture controlled situation going forward. ALso koi shows may need to be scheduled to insure that the koi have a active immune response at the time of the year shown.

Studies are being discussed and perhaps conducted on a water treatment that could be used as a temperary anti viral to prevent transmission of KHV from an infected koi to other koi at a koi show or sale.

Easier and more accurate testing is another huge area needing research funding.

Most KHV research is funded by a 3rd party and confidentiality and protecting new discoveries and potential patents on new techniques and products prevents disclosure of much that is occuring.

Thanks again to all that are willing to help.

Just want to share with all KB memebers that first Koi-Bito auction for KHV funding is final and went well. It was the beautiful piece of koi art fused glass and modeled after a famous All Japan Show Champion donated by Peter Enfield for KHV project.

Congratulations to KB member, SoonerKoi, the winner.

Thanks to Soonerkoi and all K-B members for supporting this worthwhile project.

Best regards,
--Dinh

1st Koi Bito Project KHV auction is final

The on line auction of Peter's 3rd Koi slate has finished and the winning bid was $3,101 by Kimberlii Downs of Norman, OK. No doubt this is a new and well deserved record price for one of Peter's slates. A record, we hope to break with the 4th and final koi slate auction that will begin in a few days. I can't wait to see how high the next slate goes.

You will be receiving details about the 4th koi slate auction in a few days. To see the final results of the recent auction you can click on this link.

Special thanks to everyone who spread the word about this auction and especially to Peter who donated the slate, Brian & Dinh who let us utilize their auction web site and of course to Kim for making the high bid.

We have already started receiving donations directly from Koi Bito members as well. Thank you to all who are helping us raise funding for KHV research. TO view more information about Project KHV or see the donor listings go to www.akca.org and click on the Project KHV link.
