Quality Koi - Friday

I arrived bright and early today at Quality Koi. I spent the day seeing the new structures built since last year and helping (more like watching) tosai sorting. Once that was done, we went over to the nissai holding pond to bowl up some Koi to look at for Mike. I think the photos below speak for themselves. More shots to follow.

A Kohaku one of my club members already bought. We bowled it up today to double check it is female (it is) and to check the beni quality. Mat's response was "not enough". This confused me because I thought it looked awesome. What he meant was he did not charge enough.

Sorting tosai

Can you pick out the future Grand Champion in the crowd?

A few GinRin Showa. Can you tell which one caught our eye?

Tosai showa sorting

After lunch we moved on to another tank of tosai. Mat brought out his top showa culler, Hannah. She already knows what to look for.

She agreed with us on the #1 and #2 showa tosai. Sorry folks, they are already spoken for.

Saved the best for last

The last Koi I looked at for the day was a very special GinRin Kohaku. In an attempt to prevent possible shrinkage to my wallet, I spent quite a bit of time trying to find something wrong with her. Not a single scale out of line. The whole time Mat is grinning ear to ear. We'll talk price tomorrow night after I get him to drink a few too many.

Well, Henry, there has to be one I'd not want. Just not sure which.

Let's see, one has as near perfect a pattern as I think I've ever seen. One looks like she will be the size of a battleship... and another is carrier-sized. One has incredible white. Another has a really pretty face... and one has wide shoulders ... I'll let you and Dick figure it out.

Mat has to know that is an awesome group of future fish. I am going to feel honored to be able to raise any of them. Give Mat my best.

.... BTW, you are having too much fun. Wish I was there.
