Quality Koi - Saturday

Back at the farm again today. Another fun day. The first pond for today was a male sansai pond. Some good and bad news. The good news, on of tne of the males turned out to be female. The bad news, 1 female + 19 males = BABIES!!!. Mat did cull out a lot of the tosai, but they still managed to eat some of the food, so the males in this pond did not have the growth that some other ponds had. One male shiro utsuri though did take on a very female shape and a very white head (hopefully the sumi will come up).

The other pond for today was a nissai pond that the jumbo tosai from last year spent the summer. These Koi are only 18 months old. Just look at their size, especially how tall some of them are. These Koi are destined to get BIG. One of the Koi was one I posted last year when it was only 4 months and 10". It is now 16 months and almost 21" with some impressive girth.

Tomorrow are 2 female sansai ponds. I'll post more pics as soon as I can (which may not be until Monday).

Dick that sure is a nice asagi. Looking at the koi from this mud pond makes me want to dig mine deeper and grow some big koi. Some really nice koi you have in your hands. I wish I was there helping.

HenryC,
can you tell us the pond's temperature, and is it where Matt thought it would be?

I'll have to ask him what the water temperature of the mud ponds are right now. I know it is cold up here. The water in the greenhouse ponds is at 60F since he did not want to heat them until all the Koi are in (to limit the temperature differential experienced when they come in). I would expect the mud ponds are a little cooler.

Dick's Asagi must really glisten in person. Such soft colors. How blue would it be in a white bowl? ... just wondering.

Smart of Matt to leave the Greenhouse ponds with the heat of until all are in ( I suspect that is common in the business?)
HenryC,
It hasn't been warm here since you left,,,my big pond is at 72 and the 3500Gallon with the PMS is 68 degrees
