My asagi tosai

These are the asagi I got from blackwater this year, still tosai in first growing season. I've never seen or heard of sumi comming up on asagi, "sanke in the woodpile"?, freak chance?, crappy water?, not sumi? Of course it happened to the one I liked the best.

Many Asagi darken and develop Sumi if not kept in soft water, but I have seen examples of Asagi kept in high pH, hard water that did not do so... yet. I think of North Carolina as having moderate and low hardness in most areas, so that may not be your issue at all.

When DickB returns from the East coast, I'm sure he will have some thoughts to share.
