Seeing as how breeders look at fish differently than hobbyists, I am going to say the future lies in C. The pattern is the only one that will look good on a larger fish. Also the beni is of the orange base type which will expand with the growth of the fish. The pattern will be much better as this fish grows out to full size (over 28"). It reminds me of the fish I just brought back from Japan pattern wise.

Breeders look to the future of fish and can predict very well how a fish is going to develop. They rarely miss their mark when it comes to high priced tosai or nisai. The proof is in their nisai and yonsai ponds at harvest time. When you see what they have in those ponds, it enlightens you to how well they select fish to grow out.

Mike

BTW, who is the breeder?

I'm thinking B for the future and therefore the price, but I am sure I would pick C if it was going to my collection. I have no future vision, so for me it is usually a Koi for now.

C, A, B in that order. For future growth, not today.

here's a helpful thing to do to fisualize with how a pattern changes with the growth of a koi. I use this example for hands on in my seminars. I mention this because people are making comments about the patterns now which in a few years will be underwhelming......it's why i picked C for myself

get a marking pencil in red and a long thin balloon ( 3/4 inches wide and 6-7 inches long in white.)

Draw the face and gills on the rounded end and then draw in your dream kohaku pattern in red.

yep, your right, i'll have you begin to blow into it and watch what happens to the pattern as our koi gets big. It proportionately begins to shrink.

another thing you need to know is that perfect white and red on a tosai could mean many things ( could be male ) but here's something to keep in mind. The longer it takes for a koi to reach it's perfection in shape and color the longer it stays there. If a tosai is already at it's zenith, there is only one way it can now go ( and that ain't the way we want it to! ) Take another look at the kohaku i selected from Quality Koi in the thread Dan Blatt posted. See what a big heavy ugly pattern that is? When that koi gets into the mid to upper 20's it will begin to come into it's own. hope this helps

"C" looks like the best fish in my opinion, but it seems more mature than Tosai.

Tempting to say C, but I go A, C, B for the 180,000 yen price For my collection, it would be C if it had to be one of them though.

Definitely C....but then again as some have mentioned, I would not pay anywhere close to that for any of them....or collectively for that matter.
