Koi Hunting in Japan Oct29~Nov4th

Hi fellas,
6 of us from Malaysia went on our Koi hunting trip to Hiroshima nd Nigata. The weather was just beautiful and so were the people and kois. We only wished we had more time and more BREAD.. Our story is posted on the malayisan koi forum and I hope Brian will not mind if I link you to the thread http://www.koi.com.my/cgi-bin/koifor...=unread#unread

Hope you will enjoy the story and pictures.

I'm glad you guys had a blast over there. I'm surprised that Lee was still there. That place just seems magical when the jumbos start to come up from the nets and into the bowls. Seems that my stories are so similar that it must be the same for just about everyone that goes there. You guys purchased some very fine koi. A few of them even looked familiar. Maybe one day we'll catch up there and have more stories to share. Congratulations again on your purchases.

Too bad...if it would have been a week earlier, you would have run into me down there! Well...there's always next month.

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Fellas, Glad you liked the Pics. I have more to post on the Nigata Leg of our journey. We also have 3 hours on video tape that will be quite hilariuos plus live footage of kois that we previewed.

Koinut,Brian, it would have been great meeting up while you guys were there. Even then, we cud have missed U. To us, all caucasians look alike. Brian, December? sure... lets see- how about 2007.

While there, there were buyers from Europe with deep pockets and we made sure we didnt do any negotiations with Kentaro on those occasions. These guys do know their kois and were prepared to pay and with the strong Euro, everything seem cheap

Talking about pricing. Everytime, we ask Kentaro to price a decent looking koi, He will exclaimed " Waahhhh very nice!!! You have good eye...Then he will phone his father or uncle. We go..."Oh shit" At times all three SOn, Father and Uncle will be there. Then Double Shit!! TAKAI!! We will remind them that we all have the same surname: YASUI! There after we were Yasui-San

The best strategy to buy is to give them a target price and have them select a few kois for your selection. Often you will see kois you overlooked or just didnt have sharp enuf eye for.

Another thing we were let in on after many rounds of "KAnPAi" The breeders can tell 70% of the time if a koi is female even when they are under 20cm!!! But they wont teach I bet.

Cheers
