New goshiki and showa..please judge!!

So...these are my two new koi. Both around 14 inches and both female. The Goshiki is from Hiroi koi farm and the showa is from Suzusei koi farm. The are both 2 yrs old. This is probably my last purchase of the season as its getting cold here in Connecticut. Let me know what you think?

I'll probably be in the minority on this one but I like the goshiki more than the showa. It's pretty thin right now, but the frame on the goshiki makes me think that this could be a big fish - thick tail, long head, big mouth.

Separating a possible purchases into 3rds from head to tail has always helped me. Goshiki, especially young ones, are hard to "see" what they will be. Very difficult to raise and do well with for many people. I worry about the balance on both of thse koi, but the showa for me holds more promise, especially if it becomes a more traditional type with heavy sumi.

showa

I like the showa better, I agree its too heavy at the head and tail and not a lot in the middle third. But if that area come in with more sumi then you might have a nice showa.

I think from a pattern concern, the showa may end up a lot more pleasing......

But pattern aside, you may be exceeding pleased with the quality of the goshiki...

time will tell

Showa shows signature sumi motoguro and menware. Goshiki shows a silhouette of 'Bambi' upside down on its head. Nice profile!

I'm no expert, but it could very well be a toss-up in a year or two. The Showa has a definite advantage in body girth today, but the tail tube on both appear to the equally strong which should bode well for the future of both. Color and patterns on both at this stage look good enough at 2 yrs and will likely take a few more to finish. They should be an interesting pair for long term development comparison.

I think the Goshiki will make the best koi of the two but both are nice koi. The goshiki is going to be a very large koi and that is to me what looks good on any koi.

King Kong...LOL!!! You just named my new koi...The goshiki will forever be known as bambi!! The Showa is named Tile. Why? We were going to rip up carpets in my basement and put down new tile...as my puppy destroyed the carpet. Well, the prices were high to have the work done...so, I said to my wife...If you don't say anything when I bid on these two fish (and spend, spend, spend) I will rip up the carpets and lay down all the tile myself. Mind you...I'm a doctor and don't know a damn thing about ripping up carpets or laying down tile. Well...there I was on my day off...laying tile. This fish had better be the worlds greatest grand champion....ever!!!
